Can Trade Me improve my site traffic?

Posted on 26. Jun, 2010 by Sheryl.

The short answer is hell YES! We monitor around 30 websites via google analytics and last Thursday I was blown away by 1,000 unique visitors to the RPMS website in one day! While RPMS do receive a good amount of site traffic this was a serious jump. And the reason for it – a wee click thru link at the bottom of the Trade Me Mod’s motors newsletter. Took me awhile to find it but it is there near the bottom under ‘new NZ automotive site’.

the big swell

Lately I seem to be doing a number of online community based projects. These are fast becoming my favourite type of work. the big swell is one of these – a community site dedicated to mums and motherhood. huiadesign completed the branding under direction from Greg at brand ecology. This was a new process for me in terms of the work that was done by Greg and the directors of the big swell before the design was even started. Creating a sustainable brand is not an easy task but I believe this one has more than achieved the early stages of that through the support and knowledge of all those involved in the project.

Starting out with social media and your business – part one: facebook

As if promoting your business offline isn’t enough we now have to invest time and energy into promoting our businesses online. Having a website is only the beginning we have to consider many options of spreading our word on a much larger scale. The great thing about online promotion is it’s relatively inexpensive and fairly measureable. However there is a misconception that results happen overnight, this is definitely not the case you’re in for the long haul. This is the first in a series of articles about simple ways to get started with your online campaign.

The Facebook page

As much as you may disagree I believe as a business wishing to promote yourself online you need a facebook page. Many of your competitors already have one and there is a massive audience of people who use facebook as their main online communication or web presence and in fact are using facebook to find services or products ahead of google. These people may not find your website but you will have a much greater chance of them finding you via your facebook page.

Michele Lewis
is a nature and documentary photographer. Her images are breathtaking. I recently created a new brand for her, she wanted hot colours with charcoal so I chose saffron yellow and chilli red then used a mendhi type icon to fit with the colours. It’s great to create with such bright, bold colours.

Below is her DLE postcard which was part of her brand package.

New site for Lox salon & spa

Posted on 05. Feb, 2010 by Sheryl.

Janine Tait is a favourite client, one of her businesses is Lox salon and spa in Tauranga. It’s a beautiful place and the treatments are divine. The approach to this design was a little offbeat because I designed an ezine for Lox late last year. I went off on a bit of a design tangent with the ezine (got carried away with the Lox fairies) and therefore it didn’t really match the existing Lox website. So it was time for a change, and voila! Now it matches perfectly. I had fun creating three different backgrounds in photoshop from Lox imagery for the website.

2 site revamps

January was such a busy month, it’s normally quiet so this time round there was no time for working on a tan! I revamped a couple of larger websites that have blogs as well. For Syrup magazine the look now is more professional but with a friendly, hand-made feel and for Venus Clubs we’ve opted for a ‘magazine’ style layout. Vanessa from Venus Clubs blogs regularly so now her front page is always changing with new and fresh info and articles. This is a great way to encourage re-visits to your website.

1st logo for 2010

Posted on 30. Jan, 2010 by Sheryl.

Towards the latter part of 2009 I seemed to be churning out logos at a very regular rate – not that I’m complaining! After a short reprieve here is my 1st logo design for this year, very simple, bold, memorable. FEAST is a new business that encompasses cooking classes, tours and events. Being food related this has been fun so far and a website plus print media are following very soon!

Below is the biz card front which has a diecut ‘chomp’ out of it… Will have to get some photos of them when they are printed.
