As if promoting your business offline isn’t enough we now have to invest time and energy into promoting our businesses online. Having a website is only the beginning we have to consider many options of spreading our word on a much larger scale. The great thing about online promotion is it’s relatively inexpensive and fairly measureable. This is the first in a series of articles about simple ways to get started with your online campaign.

The Facebook page

As much as you may disagree I believe as a business wishing to promote yourself online you need a facebook page. Many of your competitors already have one and there is a massive audience of people who use facebook as their main online communication or web presence and in fact are using facebook to find services or products ahead of google. These people may not find your website but you will have a much greater chance of them finding you via your facebook page.

rss02“What on earth is RSS?” – I hear you say, “and those pretty little icons like the ones on the left (very often orange) that I see on alot of websites and blogs”. Well in actual fact RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is no deep mystery it’s a very useful tool and you’re about to learn why.

You do this by ‘subscribing’ via RSS. Now traditionally ‘subscribing’ involves an exchange of money but in this case it’s absolutely FREE – great! Subscribing to a website or blogs content allows you to have complete control over the information you are receiving. You don’t have to cough up your email address or request to be unsubscribed when you’re well and truly sick of being harassed, you can end your relationship with any content feed at anytime, with one click and no-one need ever know. So it’s all very private – lovely…

What is this Twitter all about?

twitter2If you don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s time to catch up on the latest social media phenomenon – Twitter.

Twitter accounts are free, and if you learn how to gather a community of followers, you have an audience that you can reach out and “tweet” your message to anytime, anywhere. If your Tweets are helpful, entertaining or just plain great, your followers will pass the Tweet to their followers, and so on and so on…
